Are the three days of darkness described in the Scriptures - ROGER L. FREITAS - 10/24/2024

"What has been will be again, what has happened will happen again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun." Ecclesiastes 1:9

This prophecy appears in several prophetic books, such as Joel, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Amos and some others. It is also described in Revelation in the events related to the sixth seal.

Every prophecy, dream or revelation must be aligned with the Holy Bible.

Darkness was the ninth plague sent upon Egypt in Exodus 10:21-29, which says:

"Then the Lord said to Moses: “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, and let there be darkness over the land of Egypt, thick darkness that can be felt!” Then Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was darkness over all Egypt for three days. No one could see anyone or move from their homes for three days. Nevertheless, all the Israelites had daylight in the lands where they lived.” Exodus 10:21-23

In Revelation, following the principle of Ecclesiastes 1:9, we see the repetition and references of 7 of these plagues:

Water turning to blood. (Exodus 7:14-25) and (Revelation 16:4-7)

Frogs. (Exodus 8:1-7) and (Revelation 16:13)

Burnings and boils. (Exodus 9:8-12) and (Revelation 16:2)

Hailstorms. (Exodus 9:13-35) and (Revelation 8:7)

Locusts. (Exodus 10:1-20) and (Revelation 9:3)

Darkness. (Exodus 10:21-29) and (Revelation 6:12), (Revelation 9:2), (Revelation 16:10)

Death. (Exodus 12:21-30) and (Revelation 9:15), (Revelation 6:3-4)

All of these events are related to the Great Day of the Lord. The Day of the Lord is a biblical expression that has an eschatological meaning and refers to the great day of the final manifestation of God’s righteousness. This means that on the Day of the Lord the wicked world will be judged and all sin will be definitively punished. On the other hand, the Day of the Lord will be an occasion of great joy and gladness for the saints. On that day God will be glorified not only by the manifestation of His justice, but also by the manifestation of His grace in the lives of His chosen people. On the Day of the Lord the work of redemption will find its full accomplishment, and the merits of Christ in the salvation of the redeemed will shine even brighter, when they are received into eternal bliss. In the Old Testament there are several passages about this Event: (Isaiah 13:9-13) - (Joel 1:15) - (Joel 2:1-11) - (Ezekiel 30:3) - (Amos 5:18-20) - (Obadiah 1:15) - (Zephaniah 1:14-18) - (Joel 2:28-32).

The same, but different.

When the Lord sent darkness in the book of Exodus, the purpose was to free the Hebrew people from slavery in Egypt. The Darkness mentioned by the Lord in Matthew, Mark, Luke and Revelation will be a final judgment on humanity.

In Revelation 9:2, it is written: "When she had opened the bottomless pit, smoke rose from it like smoke from a huge furnace. The sun and the sky were darkened with soot from the pit."

In Revelation 6:12, we read: "I saw when He had opened the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake. The sun was darkened as if covered with sackcloth, and the whole moon became red as if dipped in blood."

In Matthew 24:29 the Lord says: "Immediately after the torment of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken." In other words, the sun will not be darkened TWICE, therefore Revelation 9:2 and 6:12 are dealing with THE SAME EVENT. This means that the three days of darkness and the opening of the bottomless pit will occur at the SAME moment in time. And yes, during this time the demons, evil entities, Nephilim and fallen angels imprisoned in the bottomless pit will be free to wreak havoc and terror upon the wicked. Revelation 9:11 confirms this: "And there was a king over them, the angel of the Bottomless Pit, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, Apollyon. Therefore, let us be prepared, alert and sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit, because these events are at the door.
